Cool Spring
Cool Spring House 1930-1950
Ralph Womeley acquired the land in the 1780s, and his son William built the house c1790. an inscription from 1799 is inscribed on one of the upper windows. Later owned by David Castleman Jr., then Charles McCormick, Col. Francis McCormick. In 1950 the Cistertian Trappists bought it and made it a monastery. House is on the Cool Spring battlefield.

Cool Spring/Our Lady of the Holy Cross Abbey
Central 2 story 5-bay stone house with hipped roof built c1784 by the sons of Ralph Wormeley & later owned by David Castleman Jr., then owned for many years by the McCormick family. Wings have been added after the Cisterscian Order bought it in the 1950s. Part of a National Historic Battlefield site (Battle of Cool Spring, 7/18/1864).
