Brig General Jacob Castleman 1777-1837

Another son of Johann Lewis with a significant military history, but dies in a terrible tragedy May 8, 1837.  Aboard steamboat "Ben Sherrod" on the Mississippi the Captain is another of Jacobs sons, 31 year old Christopher Greenup Castleman 1806-1850.  After midnight a drunken crew over heats the boilers racing to pass another boat, the "Prairie" and fire breaks out. Captain Christopher and his wife Caroline survive, but about 150 people are lost, including some children thought to be theirs that may have actually been Caroline's younger brother and sisters. In 1850 Christopher and Caroline die, leaving 6 year old and 14 year old children to the care of relatives?
